House of Wolves finally delivers what so many people have been clamoring for in Destiny I know, I know. I was a bit surprised, too. First, some backstory. You knew something was fishy when those Fallen were serving the Queen on the Reef in the original release For the uninitiated, that’s a race of aliens, a matriarch, and an area in space that another race, the Awoken, call home. Well, it turns out your instincts were spot-on.

A trio of players has broken through the new three-person Prison of Elders mode on its hardest setting, level Leading the team was Sunshadowr, who previously found fame for completing the game’s Crota’s End raid solo – without firing a single bullet. House of Wolves’ new Prison of Elders activity is available in three non-matchmade flavours – the fairly straightforward level 32, challenging 34 and downright hard as nails
Which brings us to House of Wolves, which I feel is proof that Bungie is finally Only the Level 28 version of the Prison of Elders offers matchmaking, with more.
May 19th of may become known as the day that players started hating Bungie just a little bit less. The House of Wolves not only brings fresh content to Destiny but it also gives much needed fixes to the game. The latest expansion is somewhat of an apology to players. First, the additional story content. Even though there were few missions added, they are of a higher quality than the previous expansion. The storyline was larger and more flushed out but fell short of the highest levels that Bungie has been known for in the past.
The mechanical delivery of the story is its greatest flaw, the same voice over then action and more voice over technique continues to be over employed in this game. For those most interested in co-operative content, there is an additional strike and new arena mode called the Prison of Elders. The strike is much to talk about in comparison to the arena mode. The strike is pretty much standard fare in the way of Destiny strikes whereas the Prison of Elders shakes things up.
Instead of running through a map space killing enemies, the players are staged in to a small arena and enemies spawn in waves. Later waves and harder levels include objectives that must be met in order to continue. The objectives could be a VIP target, dismantling mines, or destroying mines. Ultimately, there is still a boss at the end of the challenge and then ultimately rewards for the player.

May, PoE is a 3-player co-operative mode featuring players vs environment. There is a level 28 event as well as levels 32, 34 and Only the level 28 event features matchmaking. ToO is a Player vs Player elimination mode: 3 vs 3 with no matchmaking at all.
Destiny got very repetitive and grindy very quickly. They should have put some effort into fixing their horrendous matchmaking system instead of just adding.
Earlier today Bungie lifted the veil off their upcoming DLC expansion, Destiny: House of Wolves, showing off some of the additions and changes that players can expect if they purchase the add-on. One part that stuck out was the now ubiquitous PlayStation exclusive piece of content. Starting with the main game and continuing with The Dark Below, every time new Destiny content has been released PlayStation owners have gotten just a little bit more. The original game had a few exclusive Crucible maps Update: the main game actually featured exclusive Crucible maps, a Stirke, and a few other items , but The Dark Below took it to extremes, featuring extra gear, weapons, and even an exclusive Strike mission.
House of Wolves tones it down a bit, returning to the simple Crucible map from the main game. The PlayStation exclusivity deal is set to expire later this year. After that Bungie is free to release it on Xbox or any other platform that they might put Destiny on in the future. Whether they will or not, or how they will distribute it, has yet to be revealed.
Considering how much Bungie is messing with the Crucible to make it a bigger part of the game, PlayStation fans might find themselves much happier getting this exclusive map than they have been before. Bigger loot payouts are coming with House of Wolves, and matchmaking is said to be getting some revamps that should keep players coming back for more.
What’s The Verdict On Destiny: House Of Wolves?
Unlike the Trials of Osiris , House of Wolves ‘ new competitive multiplayer mode, the Prison of Elders supports matchmaking. However you decide to jump in, the Prison of Elders will throw enemies at you in increasingly difficult waves. Bungie has built this kind of thing before, of course, with Firefight, the beloved mode that debuted in ‘s Halo 3: ODST.
Today’s Destiny Expansion II: House of Wolves revealed yet another that support matchmaking, unlike the new Trials of Osiris PVP event.
There are four pieces of downloadable content DLC that were released for Bungie ‘s first-person shooter video game Destiny. Each package of downloadable content added new player versus environment PvE missions and player versus player PvP modes, new locales to visit, and new items for the player to make use of. The third, The Taken King , was released in September and had the largest effect on the game, as it changed much of the core gameplay. In December , Destiny shifted to an event-based model, featuring more periodical limited-time events.
The fourth and last expansion called Rise of Iron released in September Although the first three downloadable content packs were available for all consoles that Destiny was originally released for PlayStation 3 , PlayStation 4 , Xbox , and Xbox One , the fourth expansion, Rise of Iron , is only available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As per an exclusivity agreement with Sony Interactive Entertainment , Destiny and all of its expansions featured timed exclusive content for the PlayStation versions.
The timed exclusive content that was available at the launch of Destiny , as well as the exclusive content of the first two expansions, became available for Xbox when The Taken King launched. Prior to the official release of Destiny in September , Bungie declared that a major component of the game would be a continuous release of new content. Bungie Director of Production Jonty Barnes said: “We’re going to continuously update the game from now until the end of time.
That’s always going to be part of the philosophy of Destiny. We always wanted to build a new universe but keep building upon it, rather than to do a complete and utter restart periodically.

But it was never really clear what the heck was going on beyond those airy concepts. How are the Guardians revived and who are they? What the heck is the deal with that royal family living in the space junkyard? And why do the Ghosts sound like Peter Dinklage waking up from a really long sleep?

Destiny has been trying to wrestle PVP to the ground since the launch of the title. I have already argued in a post and video that the split identity of Destiny is bad for the future of the franchise, and have also written and done a video about how PVP lacks enough engagement to warrant lots of development attention. Sadly, in the current state of PVP shooters, connecting people based primarily on connection is considered divergent. The sad reality is, you might not be good enough to do well in a game like Destiny when you play against players who either have more experience than you or just exude more raw talent in the genre.
Shooters like Call of Duty, and even recently Battlefield, have been simplifying their games to make them more accessible to players with less skill. So the acquisition and adaptation process was painful and pretty frustrating. But I do think the younger generation is expecting to move the joystick, press a few buttons, and watch the whole map blow up in a blaze of their own glory. Another innovative thing that Bungie is doing with this new PVP mode is only allowing full teams to play.

The Gjallarhorn rocket launcher, when fully upgraded, tracks targets like stink on roadkill and on detonation splits into several so-called “Wolfpack rounds” that cause additional damage to bullet-sponge bosses. Though it’s an elemental solar weapon, the burn on your enemy doesn’t matter. This thing shreds the Darkness whatever the hell that is like a hot knife through butter. I say this because Gjallarhorn dropped for me, after a long pursuit, as part of Destiny’s new expansion, the House of Wolves.
You may remember I wrote about my desires for this new content back in April, where I outlined five things it would need to do to keep my attention. I’ve played through most of the story content at this point, and though I’ve yet to enter the Trials of Osiris I think I have a firm handling of what you can expect with the DLC. In spite of receiving the long sought-after rocket launcher, I’m not looking at this content through rose-colored glasses. It’s good, not great, and I think it’s finally time I come up for air and start looking at what else my Playstation has to offer.
One could argue the new player v. That doesn’t change the fact that we’re still playing with the same supers and mechanics that have been available since launch. Wish No.
